In pursuit of wealth and other things material

If I do get some time to ponder these days, just one thought comes into my mind - human beings have turned into dark green monsters craving for more wealth and all things materialistic. There are those who argue that human and other living forms on this planet were created by an intelligent agent and I suspect if the intelligent designer did know if we would get into such mess. When I said mess, I did not just mean the financial mess. We are much deeper state of mess both in terms of our moral values and even our core existence. We came out of the great depression and two long wars and thought that was the end of all the madness and human race could prosper. However, we just came back a full circle and all we did was invent the ipod and humongous flat panels and other luxuries of life which makes a lot more miserable as we lose all that we "acquired" in the past 50 to 60 years than what a common man during the great depression would have felt. All the industrial and technological growth seem to satisfy just one selfish goal - quench the greed of the so-called intelligent living organism. It is a pity that the intelligent being could not figure out how to deal with greed and avarice.

That being said, I am one among those millions who believe that there is always hope. A world without evil is not a balanced arena. However, the balance is too tilted towards the evil now and there needs to be a conscious effort to reassess our part on this planet and what we truly want to achieve, not just in terms of wealth and money, but in terms of true happiness.
