When does too much desire and ambition become greed...

There are times when I think I get what I want if I had never even wished for it....or may be it comes true because we truly wish for it in our subconscious mind. There is something about a conscious wish that it almost becomes something that is never meant to happen. Is it because the conscious thinking/wishing is more of an extreme desire? Some may say that such extreme wishful thinking is greed, but what about those things that you wish that has nothing to do with money or materialistc tangibles?
